Drywall Repair and Patching

While drywall is almost guaranteed to be a strong, secure, longevous, and lasting wall material, it can still succumb to damages. After sustained periods of wear and degradation or heavy cases of impact, any drywall fixture will start to show signs of damage. And, while these are usually never anything serious, they can cause a huge visual disruption to any room, looking unsightly to any visitor. Nobody wants that for their home interior, and we know that best. That is why our team recognizes the importance of drywall repair and patching solutions. Large installations are needed for new projects, but for existing home owners, renters, or landlords, ceiling and drywall repair is an unavoidable need from time to time. At Tampa Drywall Specialists, we help our clients restore their drywall from all sorts of issues so that they can continue to enjoy the highest quality aesthetics. Therefore, if there is anything that can be done to improve the look of your interior walls, just give us a call about a fix.

Drywall Crack Repairs

Cracked drywall can be common. Unfortunately, it only ever takes slight damage or defect to lead to noticeable cracking across the surface of a drywall fixture. And, although this can be obviously ugly to look at, it is something that can be easily fixed with a bit of professional help. Our team can cover over any type of cracking with our specialized patching material. We'll fully sand and smooth the repaired area, restoring full durability and good looks to your walls. Then, we can apply any plastering or painting required to finalize the job, to once again achieve the appearance you are used to.

Drywall Patching

Or, if your interior walls are suffering from more severe damages, perhaps our drywall patching service would be best for you. Holes happen often when furniture is being moved in or out and corners can be chipped in the same method. Children may haphazardly create damages to a section of wall or heavy objects in your garage might punch a hole by accident. No matter how great or minor your drywall panel is damaged, you can always count on patch repairs to get it back to full health. Whether large or small, our team can cut a fresh piece of drywall panel to match the size of the damage, before fixing it into place with our ultra-durable bonding compound. In doing this, we can fully restore the sleek feel of your drywall and create a strong, reinforced section that will no doubt stand the test of time. We're happy to follow up with sanding and then paint if you desire. Sometimes it pays to keep your left over house paint in a storage area. That always makes things easier for fix up jobs but we understand this often isn't the case. We'll always do our best to match colors and make any patch repair blend in as well as possible. Don't let an accidental damage keep you from your security deposit or leave you feeling silly as guests frown at your "beat up home." Call today for a free estimate on any Tampa drywall repair job.

Tape Repair

We can repair and replace any drywall tape that has ceased to do its job. Paper tape or mesh tape is always used across any seams when hanging drywall. Tape for dry wall is used on edges and corners too. Its use is necessary where two pieces of drywall butt up against each other, where a whole has been patched, or for various other reasons. Underneath and on top, the tape is covered with joint compound, also known as drywall mud. Bubbling, cracking, or the tape peeling off over time can be a result of a number of things. Humidity and heat are a given here in Florida, which does not help the longevity of drywall tape. Faulty installation, shifts in the boards or the building itself, and of course age are all factors that can play into tape requiring repairs too.

We'll completely remove the tape where there is a problem to begin our drywall repairs because this will yield the best long term result. After sanding or removing any large chunks that remain, we'll apply fresh mud, then re-tape the seam, then go through 3-4 more layers of compound, growing the application area to help better blend the repair into the wall. The first application over the tape can be called the bedding layer. Time must be allowed in between each layer to give the joint compound time to dry. When complete, we'll sand the area and then after all sectinos are totally dry, we'll use a fine sander to make sure the transition from the existing wall to the newly mudded area is as smooth as possible. After sanding, we'll use primer before we paint. Anytime drywall mud is applied, you want to use primer which works wonders to conceal any repairs. While paint is decent at this, primer does an even better job to hide color discrepancies before the wall is repainted.

Nail Pops

Popped nails are unsightly and quite annoying. Surprisingly, nail pops can result from both new construction and well aged homes. In older homes, where nails were used instead of drywall screws, the nails may be smooth, without much grip and come loose as the old home settles and all its parts shift a bit. In new homes where drywall screws have been used, the screw shouldn't slide out as easily. However, new and improved installation methods have been developed (which is a positive) but this can create a large gap in temperatures for the wood on both sides of the installation (not so positive). With the difference in moisture and temperature, it's easy for the wood to twisting, or shifting unevenly. As this happens, the screw can be gently forced out of the lumber and protrude from the drywall or at least leave a bulge.

Depending on the issue, hammering or screwing will put it back in, but it may only be a matter or time before you see the same result. Adding screws to that same stud can help to secure the drywall and more importantly, help the nail pop remain in it's original place. We'd be happy to examine the problems for you. We can resecure the drywall if needed, apply new joint compound, and then repaint to have your walls or ceiling looking as good as they once did.

Plaster Repair

Furthermore, we can offer you fully comprehensive plaster repair solutions, to ensure that any damaged plaster is left in its original, clean condition. The quality of your plaster is just as important as the home itself, responsible for the look and finish of your walls. So, if there are any cracks, chips, or signs of wearing, make sure you trust us to make them right for you.

Ceiling Repair

If your house is well-loved, you may have developed some cracks or stains on your ceiling over the years. If you have a need for ceiling drywall repair, you can bet that our team is up to the task. We understand just how essential each part of your drywalling fixture is, including your ceilings. So, if there is ever any damage caused to them, we know that you will want to rectify them immediately. Fortunately, we can offer the same broad range of repair solutions for your ceilings, always at the highest standards of quality. Please keep in mind that if your wall or ceiling paint jobs are several years old or beyond, we will make our best effort to match the paint color but it is very common for the new paint to have a slight discrepancy unless we repaint the entire room's ceiling. Dust and sunlight can age paint rather quickly making a perfect match to a section of wall or ceiling difficult. If we anticipate this, we will offer you the option to have the entire wall or ceiling in any room repainted. Although the cost will be slightly greater, it will ensure there are not any glaring spots throughout your home or business.

Texture Matching

Any interior surface that isn't smooth is known as "textured." During the drywall finishing, once the panels are up, tape and mud have been applied, and any sanding and wiping down has been completed, the walls are ready for a texture application. When doing this for an entire wall or room, we have the luxury of sticking with our personal style and remaining consistent until the job is done. When an area needs to be matched, the work or style of the previous contractor has to be taken into consideration. Matching textures on your ceilings or walls is one of those projects that needs to be done right or not done at all. When you hire our Tampa drywall company, we'll use our expert skills to achieve a seamless result. With all of the various textures that exist, it takes an experienced drywall technician to recognize the texture and understand the nuance of recreating that specific look on the same wall. Drywall can occasionally be tackled by an ambitious do-it-yourselfer but creating a consistent texture is something that improves with time and experience. Matching a small section of texture would not be the type of job to expect to pull off successfully on your first try. Leave it to our qualified drywall contractors that not only have an eye for this, but also the right tools, and the knack to create work that doesn't stand out...but rather blends in. We even take calls about fixing edges, sloppy work, and uneven texture created by previous contractors.

If adding texture happens to be the opposite of what you're in need of, well, you're in the right place for that too. We can help with applying and removing. Call us or check out our texture removal and popcorn removal services here. Schedule a drywall repairman from Tampa Drywall Specialists today and be confident that your ceilings or walls will be restored to their original grandeur.

  • Is drywall repair expensive?

marked up and dirty wall with small hole in drywall

Depending on the size and intensity of the job, most Florida drywall repair projects can start about $150. If large equipment is required or travel time, the minimums will be higher. The removal of old or damaged sheetrock will add to the repair costs. Obviously, if you need extensive repairs and installations, the cost will be more.

For small repairs that are no bigger than a couple square feet, we can get usually photos from you and provide a rough cost. For more substantial repairs or entire rooms, it is always best that we visit the site in person to provide you with an accurate estimate. On these larger jobs, sometimes other factors may need to be considered which are not seen in photos, like the ease of accessing an area or the condition and age of the existing walls and ceiling. Fortunately for you, we provide free site visits for our quotes.

  • Is it better to repair or replace my drywall?

    repaired wall with mesh tape

Whether to repair or replace your home wall boards depends on the extent of the damage and the type of problem we are dealing with. When it comes to things like bubbles, nail pops, and hair line cracks, simple repairs will suffice, but if there are large holes, new sheetrock may be required. In the case of a water-damaged unit, you will probably need to replace large portions of your wall or ceiling to prevent the growth of mold and mildew. After we perform an inspection, you will be able to discuss the details with your professionals during your initial consultation.

  • Why should I hire a drywall repair contractor instead of doing it myself?

worker applying final coat by hand with trowel

The main advantage to hiring a professional is the quality of the work you will receive. If you are on a very tight budget and you're not overly concerned with how a finished repair will look, simple holes can certainly be patched by the home owner.

The size and scope of the repair has a lot to do with answering this question. If a piece was cut (to access a pipe for instance) and you still have that piece of drywall, the repair can be much simpler. If something fell through your ceiling and the drywall in that area was wet or destroyed, you have a larger project on your hands that may be easier for trained professionals to accomplish.

Finally, whether you are an experienced weekend warrior or an amateur, the finishing process of drywall (smoothing and matching it your existing wall) can be a challenging art to master. Creating an even surface for texturing requires a steady hand and an eye for detail. Often, the best approach is to retextrue and paint a much larger area than what you repaired. This allows for a less noticable blend of the texture. A professional team already has specialized equipment to complete the job, so you won't have to guess what to buy at the hardware store.
